Little FeatherShow poetry

I am a single mother of a beautiful little girl named Ashley. I am 32 years of age and I write; Poetry, editorials, articles on religion and children, and stories. I just published my first book which will be in stores July 7th Cherokee Wisdom Lives on Through Our Words it is currently available on publishamerica.com and amazon.com. You can view my poetry, columns, and stories at www.allpoetry.com/lilfeathercherokee as well as learn more about me and my heritage through my site www.freewebs.com/spirit_cherokee . My inspirations for my writing are my daughter, family, God and the traumatic childhood I had. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and an activist in raising awareness of this horrible crime against the innocence of children.

I have been a mother for eleven years, the best work and most rewarding job I have ever had; I also worked for the Department of Child Support Enforcement as a support enforcement specialist and the Council for Exceptional Children. A non profit organization that advocates for better education polices for the exceptionally diverse student population. My volunteering jobs include working for Arlington Housing Corporation, which provides low income housing grants and home improvement grants to low income families in the Arlington area; and, Arlington public schools where I helped out in the ED center in an administrative assistant capacity. Currently I am unemployed and trying to find a job.

In an effort to continually educate and better myself, I have enrolled here at Axia College to pursue a degree in business, I have two blocks of classes left before I graduate. I also have plans to start my own foundation (Our Children) www.freewebs.com/tammyknott , plug, and want to obtain my masters in Early Childhood education as well as a doctorate in Early Childhood Psychology. I am hopeful that having a degree will afford me better job opportunities so that I can continue to provide for my family until I complete my education goals and start working on my foundation in earnest.

I am eager to meet new people who share my interests or offer me new insight on other cultures and beliefs. You can contact me at any of the following: tkn2874@aol.com tkn2874 AIM, spirit_of_a_woman2000@yahoo.com spirit_of_a_woman2000 YIM, lilfeathercherokee@hotmail.com Windows Live Messenger ID is the same as e-mail address and lilfeather@allpoetry.com where I am a greeter and adopt a poet manager.

    Yes and No

Okay I started to comment this on share poetry but my whole comment got erased so I will do the comment here and then also post to share poetry. As I had said you have some very visual metaphors and good language however it lacks a direction. I don’t know what you are trying to convey to me. I feel if you defined the point of view you were writing from. are you the begreaved mohter/father or the child. also some of your words are so harsh and don’t fit the pain of putting a child in a grave. specifically in the first stanza “the child” is just seems to blunt and harsh also a small human seems somehow to numb the affect you are going for. I would say more like a small one or little one instead. Still though I do like your metaphors and you have some great words in there. Just work on those two things. That is if you want to take my advice. You don’t have to.

Well, the rhyme seemed a little forced. However that didn’t take away from the emotion of this poem. Its difficult to look at the person you have shared your life with and find the words to finally say its over. You tell your story very well and connect with the reader well. Thanks for sharing
