REFLECTIONS FROM MOON LADY
I'm a woman living on a tropical island off the beautiful SW Gulf Coast of Florida. I enjoy sitting with my notebook by the water under the palms that catch the constant breezes from the bay. From my patio I can watch the dolphins at play when they grace me with a visit and, a short distance away, the barnacle-encrusted manatees swim into the lagoon and sometimes stay for hours, charming the islanders with their slow, funny antics.
In addition to reading and writing contemporary poetry, I enjoy fantasy fiction and historical mysteries. I often listen to radio dramas on BBC radio and enjoy watching the Britcoms on BBC America. I love the mythology and legends of the British Isles, as my ancestry is Scots-Irish and Danish going back to the Viking warrior, Somerled.
I've played contemporary Native American Flute for 20 years and had the opportunity to personally mentor for a week with NAF recording artist, R. Carlos Nakai (Navajo/Ute), whose beautiful music continues to inspire me. www.rcarlosnakai.com

It was a nice place to be, adrift in dream, / My face nestled into the pillow, believing it to be / The soft hollow of your shoulder. / Mews and purrs, the feel of scratchy cat tongue / On my cheek intrude, /

on Breath of Creation by William McGarvey, on May 7
Singing the beauty of nature
The first thing that strikes me is the intriguing image of the red-winged blackbird with smoky breath issuing from its beak - a perfect complement to the poetic theme. Your use of alliteration is very creative and lends the quality of bird song to the poem. Nice work!

Beautifully and sparely written
I like the way you wrote on an emotional topic without allowing the poem to become overly sentimental. Rather, it was very straight-forward, i.e. recounting this relationship the way you remember it (whether fictionalized or real) from your POV. You did a good job of noting small details - the kinds of things that might be easily overlooked - and these add a sense of realism to the poem. The poem ends nicely with some questions and your own observation that both of you were, first, girls.Lovely work. Keep writing!
