If you could paint as neatly as Jackson Pollock
Or shanked off line as often as Tiger Woods
Were as trustworthy as Benedict Arnold
Or as sober living as was Dean Martin
Mayhap as erudite as one G W Bush
Or as sporting as loyal Tonya Harding
Even as big a slut as that Mother Theresa
Perhaps as greedy as fat Mahatma Gandhi
And if one's footling verse was called Byronic
It would be a topsy-turvy really ironic world
Please tell me what you think

This is a real gas, Frank.
Light verse at its best. And by that, I want to mean that good light verse is at least as fine as many a so-called "serious" poem. I really like this "topsy-turvy really ironic world" you've conjured up in this one. All its opposites are fun for me to enjoy, each line a clever contradiction. Then the irony on top of the irony in the final line. A genuinely original concept into a well-written poem; every line made me smile. Nice to see some bright humor on the site once in a while, and this one is very fine. And like the best of humor, it's got a thoughtful, perceptive undertone. Helluva good read.

If I could be relied on Lad
If I could be relied on Lad you would have had a reply before now - better late though as they say to thank
you for your comment on "If you could" cheers LAD,
Frank.

Hi, Frank.
No problem with a briefly delayed response whatsoever. You took only a couple days. Heck, some people take months if at all. So you're an early-bird!
Later,
Lad
