Memories relived

Tearing…

thought-scattered dreams
tear at threaded collage
of memories affectionately guarded

Kindergarten school…

     steps cautiously taken
     re-awakes laughter’s joy
     of pristine foundations learnt

Library…

     wooden door enclosure
     evokes images of bound
     engrave once explored

Prayer house…

     chapel’s white interior
     echoes prayer vigils
     of silent pews unchanged

Tabloid…

     blackened printer’s tray
     reminds of yester year
     through leaded word

Mountain…

     nature’s playing heights
     bring imagination’s flight
     abundantly experienced

Home…

     childhood nostalgia treasures
     awaken heart’s foundations
     emotionally poured

Healed…

memories of gathered dreams
heal aroused collage
evoking heart’s melancholy
silently captured

Author notes

Two days ago I had opportunity to visited my home town in which I spent my most happy years. I lived in this Karoo town 45 years ago. It was truly a walk down memory lane. This was a difficult poem to put into words - will leave it for now, and take it up later again. However, your comments will be appreciated.

Please tell me what you think

This poem is 'enormous', as we would say, FransB. It is really tearing me from one verse to the next in anticipation of another breathtaking picture. It is pushing, pointing, questionning and in the end with the verse "Healed" it all calms down to mere hope and relief.
Wonderful and inspiring work, leaves me with many thoughts, thanks! Ulla

    Regenerative....

to the point that it has healed itself better than it ever was. This poem is terrific. Brief examples of many places that may flash before the writer's eyes give off a nice feel to the reader. My own personal experiences with each named were immediately brought to my attention and shaped by your words. A beautiful work, my favorite lines were of the Mountain, as I am a firm believer in imagination being more immense than anything, with boundless borders. Quite an enjoyable read for me.

Dear Renji, your sensitive comments to my emotional experience are grately appreciated. Must be getting old - but there was also some fear in the experience [perhaps not wanting to disturb the past too much], as I did not visit the three remaining friends of my deceased parents. If the Lord allows, I'll do this next time! Frans.

Frans, I think this is terrific, and you should Feature it.

From its first "Tearing" to its final "Healed", this poem for me is a nostalgic dream of the circle of a man's life through so many of its phases. The poem is so well-structured, I believe, that its final stanza rings true: these "memories of gathered dreams" both heal and bring melancholy at their loss, their being gone. That double feeling is true for me too, whenever I dream back to my past.
My favorite lines here are in the Home stanza: those childhood treasures are poured, like silk cement, into the home's strong foundation, solid, gentle and true.
    Beautiful, all the way, Frans!

    Wonderful

I imagine it would be hard to put into words, but you did a great job at it! The form you used really caught my eye. I thought it was exellent. As i was reading it was somehow like reading a script. Very creative!

    great job!

Thank you for taking time to read this poem. Yes it was difficult to write. I experienced such great and deep emotions that when I began to deliver my speach as guest speaker at the school's prize-giving, I had to fight back the lump in my throat, and stop the tears flowing from my heart. Not considering my married and family life, this was the only time I was truly happy [as a kid] - so you can imagine what the trip down memory lane meant to me. Thank you for opportunity to express myself and once again thank you for your sensitive comments. Frans.
