Actor's Ballad

We play together,
Though much too old for the hats and the dresses of Dress up.
We play a child’s game,
Changing swiftly behind a curtain
And stepping out and pretending
That this is who we were all along.
The game just continues, with no losses and no wins
But for the ones we feel in our hearts,
As with each change of dress
We slip out of a life we possessed for a short while
That we learned of and felt.
With each change we step into another life,
Unfamiliar and cold to the skin,
Grow to like it, love it
Till the costume wears and we are given another garment
To replace a life we will never know again.

Do you like it? Any critiscm, suggestions?

    I like it, really

It is nice. I used to love playing dress-up and when I was small up until I was like 9 or so, I always had to be 13. I don't know why, but when I played I HAD to be 13.

Anywho, I love how you have used the simple child game of dress-up to compare it to something so strong and real, like changing from one skin to another. I think it also is like how many people change who they are so many times for other people or even just when trying to find their true self.

    Lovely,
    Ashley

Im glad you like it, and caught the feelings in it. It seemed to me the themes in the poem were a little obscure.
