The thunder begins to roll
behind my eyes as I fall to the bed.
My aching body cries as the rain falls,
leaving smears of agony.
The pressure of the would be soft bed
pushes insistently against me.
Before the storm can consume my world
I hear a gently purring.
Soft and gentle paws leave
a trail of tenderness across my chest.
A fuzzy face leans in nuzzling my nose
opening my eyes to stare into his.
I feel the calm of a loving look
my pain fades into the background
as he curls up, a warmth on my chest.
Slowly I reach up and run my fingers down his back,
taking comfort in his presence.
I whisper softly,
"thank you, how do you always know".
He looks at me un-answering
my Xavier, my painkiller, my kitten
better than Vicodin.

I FELT your discomfort and your pain. And then the comforting physicallity of the kitten's presence. You achieved the power of expression and the mystery of contact. Good job.
