Entertaining Prejudice

D.C. holiday with family –
federal land,
historic site,
federal laws –
free
to wander,
listen, learn
of colonial days
in Old Williamsburg.

Two youths seek entertainment –
diversion from
too much history portayed;
crossed the street
into the Old Dominion.

Movie house,
ticket booth,
entrance –
Manager appears -
white shirt,
white face,
and ante-bellum eyes.

“Stop!
You can’t go in there!
We don’t serve
your
kind!”

Historic lesson learned -
but not accepted.
