God is on the US side
God pimps their ride
Is God a candidate?
His blessing on all
Is a given, bless'em!
Sins? God'll redress'em
Greatest country says them
God's bestest biggest acre;
Self praise is worthless you know
Doesn't all the cant just go to show
You can fool all those people
All of the damn time.

and thats why everyone hates US and rightfully so, I hate that the world precieves US as your poem accuately portrays the US against the world superior attitude. Apologies from US and me.

On Rhetoric to Dave Ochs
Thanks Dave for feedback. you don't have to apologise for your country. You and Al are clued-up I know not voting fodder. Frank

No you can't.(fool all of those people all of the damn time)
I'm "one of those people". I and many of my disgusted Republican counterparts have been savy to the God-train for some time. I am sadly ashamed of how George Bush and Carl Rove have wrangled homophobia and religion into one lowing mass of wolf-ensconced fear. The homos are gonna get-us!!, the atheists are gonna get us!, the terrorists are gonna get us!!, the economically inept Democrats are gonna get us!!
Fear is the most primal drive in we animals and the Republican party has wielded it like a sceptre to this country's undoing. Fear creates unrest and disorder. "As the cry for freedom destroys order, so too the cry for order destroys freedom"(The Patriot Act). Fear is the media instilled feather with which the leaders of our Republic shall beat us to death. A slow death of commercially aggrandized self-gratification interspersed with reactionary fear fueling the legislation that shall once again enslave us to the very dungeons we fled when this country's spark was fanned in the hearts of those who love freedom.
Anyway, you got me on one. But yeah, I agree. The God card has been shamefully played one too many times. Nice work, Frank. Apparently you don't have to be an American to spot the irony at work in our political system. There are idisyncracies in any form of government. I agree.

To AL bowing to your rejection
Never expect you to be fooled or have wool pulled over Plum. Thanks for reading my foreigner's pop at you politics, seen from a safe distance. Fascinating though but bemusing at times. Those sportslike "USA! USA!" chants for Obarma. Frank -

Obama is nothing but rhetoric
and prime example of how the media has absconded with the task of thoughtful voter contemplation and replaced it with bullshit sound bites. A whole lot of hoo-rah with nothing inside. The man says nothing while the media give him all the hype he needs, an amazingly people are buying it without never looking to see if anything is behind the packaging. Obama is Nothing Man. He says nothing that can pin him down, but he sure gets people cranked up. Yeah...I can see how this would lead to a dim view of our electoral process. But, people are the same wherever you go and there are thoughtful voters along with the sheep. I hope the educated prevail...

To Plumeister on Rhetoric
Thanks for conversation on this. He (Obarma) reminds me of Chauncy the Peter Sellers gardener who said little but was credited with being deep. Did you see "Being There" FG -

I didn't
but I do believe that Peter Sellers played a similar character as Inspector Clouseau of the Pink Panther Cinema Franchise set. Same thing there, bumbling into undeserved honors at the behest of serendipity. Although I think Obama's serendipity is the big money wheels primping a front candidate to once again do whatever the hell they want. Front man for the puppeteers is my opinion. Personally, I liked Mike Huckabee but he's not doing so well. I'm currently leaning toward McCain as he was my first choice two terms ago but was blindsided by Bush in his initial running. Oh, that he had been elected instead of Bush...

To Plumeister on Rhetoric
Yes Clouseau is a god example Al of the same concept. Thanks for the info on election. Good luck to you all in future. Frank -

Hey thanks, Frank.
Honestly, I think Carl Rove has been hired by the Republican party to mastermind Obama's campaign behind the scenes, providing him with all the big money and media connections he needs to be a Democratic Party vote splitter while the Republicans unite and fall back to back one candidate and once again win the presidency. So hey..."Obama in '08!!!"

Hi, Frank. My regrets at not visiting your newer creations lately. I'm not on the site nearly as much as before, and if I don't see a poem Featured, I tend to miss it. So, I'm glad I clicked on this one, just checking your page. It's terrific, with your trademark wry sarcasm done up in fine style.
Right - all the bullshit we're now subjected to these electoral times is made even worse by the pious nonsense that HAS to go with it in "God's bestest biggest acre..." "Is God a candidate?" Your poem sure says he is, now being split up into four faces, preaching at us, driving me nuts with their pie-in-the-sky secular sermons. It's always good to read political poems, and this one is a star. Good read, especially that sly ref at the end to good old honest Abe. Where is he now that we need him??

Cheers Lad
Thanks lad for your take on my little polemical pop at your politicos, sorry to drag it up, even at this distance and in lesser doses than you endure it is wont to prompt upchucking. I know its my atheism that rebels at the God stuff it's not a problem here as Tony Blair's press agent said famously "we don't do God" so to be electable Blair had to shut the fuck up on that subject. He's a Catholic now as I once was bless him. Hopefully you will bless us more @ SP with your eternal presence and excellent poetry mate.

Gott mit Uns, garnichts
Well timed poem, for the Big Tuesday.
Any nation, or candidate, that is presumptuous enough to think that God is on their side is heading for a fall; it is a form of blasphemy. I don't think God goes around giving public celebrity endorsements of US candidates.
Notice that "In God We Trust" is written on their coinage, not their hearts. America has lots of piety but not much faith.
However, it is not God who encouraged such arrogance.
