Let Me Pretend (Stop Telling Me)

Let me pretend
I've made an impact on people's lives.
Stop telling me
I don't even linger in the back of their minds.

Let me pretend
I'm more than just a puppet on strings.
Stop telling me
I can't be different from society.

Let me pretend
I'm a beautiful princess in a fairytale.
Stop telling me
That I have to come back to the real world.

Let me pretend
I can wait for my prince, or maybe even my cinderella.
Stop telling me
I'm not allowed to love a woman, that it has to be a man.

Let me pretend
This dream and I can have a happy ending.
Stop telling me
I'm living a nightmare called real life.

Let me pretend
That every thing's fine.
Stop telling me
There always has to be something wrong.

Let me pretend
I'm going to turn out ok.
Stop telling me
I'll never be the same.

Stop telling me
It's simply to check if I'm still real.
Stop telling me
There are other ways to feel.

Let me pretend
There's nothing wrong with the way I act.
Stop telling me
I'm so blind to everything around me.

Let me pretend
I'm free and alive.
Stop telling me
I'm just bottling up everything inside.

Let me pretend
I'm easy to read as a book.
Stop telling me
I'm most often misunderstood.

Let me pretend
My heart is whole and hopeful.
Stop telling me
I'll never have a chance at real love.

Stop telling me about reality,
And let me pretend.

Drum roll please, and the verdict is....

okay, first off,i'd like to say that the repetition is very cool. it adds character to the poem and makes it more interesting.
pretending can be a good thing sometimes, but if you get lost in that make believe world you'll get stuck and struggle to reconnect with reality.

but you never have to listen to anyone....just do as you please, i'll still <3 you even though you do something that i think is stupid.

the only thing that i would consider changing would be the last stanza because it's less lines.....it kinda conflicts with the rest of the stanzas because they have more lines.

but you don't have to listen to me!!!!

    i don't know much!!

    love it

    Brilliant

I really like this, its different. And as you say is in the point of view of so so many people, I see a fair few stanzas that I can relate too.

Particually like the second stanza, as that is probably the one I relate to the most.

    Ace stuff!
