THEODORA (1500 Years BC = Before Clinton)

Theodora wife of Emporor Justinian 1 is considered a great female figure of the Byzantine Empire, and a pioneer of feminism, because of the laws she passed, increasing the rights of women. As a result of Theodora's efforts, the status of women in the Byzantine empire was elevated far above that of women in the Middle East and the rest of Europe.

When she ascended to the power,
It would, at last, be women’s hour.
A truly great woman was Theodora;
She must have had a mighty aura,
As rare reforming ways saw her
Proto-feminism make strong advances
For womankind in pre-emancipated days.

    hey frank

this was a little thin, and i think you needed to include the notes becauset the information wasn't in the poem. i suspect your new style was too limiting for this and more suitable for free verse.

      Disappointing

Thanks Dave, I don't really gell with the new style thing. But never mind, I can thank you and appreciate you for giving a couple of my pieces the once-over. As to it being too thin and not rounding it out, so what Dave. It was a cartoon baloon thought at best. I knew that, I don't think my mocking swipe at failed candidate Hillary in the title (can be part of the poem I feel) was got. This was contrasting her with a former worthy worker for women you may not have heard of (why I included the background details)whereas I see her (Clinton) as self-seeking like most politicians. Cheers anyway - sorry to disappoint. Frank

hmmm you start out rhyming and it worked so well, towards the end it stops and honestly that ruined it for me...I do love what your talking about, I didnt know all this...but i believe the piece needs work to feel complete

      To CinfullyDelicious

Sorry Cinfully, I don't think I accept rhyme disappeared as I wrote this short piece, viz set out herewith.

When she ascended to the power, >>>}rhyme
      It would, at last, be women’s hour.>> " "
      A truly great woman was Theodora;>>>> " "
She must have had a mighty aura,>>>rhyme
As rare reforming ways saw her>>" "
      Proto-feminism make strong advances (non-rhyme)
For womankind in pre-emancipated days. internal rhyme with "ways" from line 5.
Sorry, Cinfully, as I see it it is OK to be flexible in rhyming even slipping in and out between rhyme having the odd line of proseish free verse mixing and matching so long as the sounds work as mine did for me anyway on a reread. That's my style for waht it's worth is all I can go with. Thanks for liking the subject if the rest failed for you. No probs, I can take it but just thought I'd defend a bit especially as I advertised this one it being topical and anti-Clinton as I implied in the title. Cheers -Frank.
