Friendship, Sir

Dear sir,
let me explain to you
the meaning of this word
you loosely use.

It is not mere meeting
of like minds
nor an attraction
of opposites.

It is not the absence
of conflict
nor the constancy
of peace.

Sir,
for there is more
to friendship than
your propositions
For like minds grow bored
opposites grow weary
yet some thrive
for dear sir,
there is wingspan---
a wide array of things
that make up each
not the similarities
not the differences
but the sundry
that allows flight.

Agreements and arguments
determine nothing,
for some falter in eternal peace
some are weeds in conflict
they thrive, sir
for there is a gamut
of emotions
not mere similarities
not mere differences
but an amalgam
that allows composition
Of symphonies

You ask sir,
then what does it mean?
The answer sir
lies in the simplest of words
and its complexity
sir---
it is love
for ancient text was right
great is the man
who willingly offers his life
for his friend.

    Beautiful, Iphigene.

Really, truly expresses the heart of friendship. How does it survive difference? Trial? Like this.... like this.

I love too, that you set this truth within a reproach... Like a diamond set in a rock.

Lovely to read your work again.

    Best

I really like this, Phige. It strips away the bullshit and gets to the core of what friendship means.

It also gave me a very amusing, if somewhat bizarre, image of you lecturing a bewildered man, with a top-hat on your head and a cane in your hand!

    Good job.

    Sam

      Haha. I like the image.

Glad you liked it. For friendship to me is but this. It need not be analyzed in terms of likeness or differences.
