Whatever Happened To Dennis Miller?

There used to be this comedienne
named Dennis Miller
who was hip, had this biting sarcasm and wit
that I liked
and on his show
he’d pick some issue
that he wasn’t right with
and start attacking
and say,
“now I don’t want to go into a rant,”
then he’d proceed
to go into a rant
that was wonderfully twisted
and sophisticated
and he’d finish with
“but that’s just my opinion
I could be wrong,”

Now I don’t want
to go into a rant here
but somewhere between the Improv
and his HBO special
Dennis Miller’s morphed into
a self-righteous, right-wing conservative
war mongering, skeletons in my closet
chicken hawk, go fight and die
while I spew Klanish everyone should be
just like me vitriol
while I make millions
behind the comfort of my
radio talk show microphone
like my cronies Rush and Bill O’reilly

But that’s just my opinion
I could be wrong

I completely agree with what you're saying here. I like the parallelism between your description of the old Dennis Miller and what you're trying to do in this poem.
the epithets for Miller just keep coming in the second stanza. I know that Miller is Right wing but is it fair to call him Klannish? I don't know. I suppose I don't care he's a right-winger-- which is close minded and bigoted enough for me.

If I had to make a suggestion, I would say consider getting rid of the 3rd to last line. I'm not sure that Rush and O'Reilly are Miller's cronies per se. Miller is a right wing shock jock to be sure-- but I'm not sure he has the political influence of the other two.

      dear chicago

thanks for commenting most people havent heard of DM so the poem isn't as relevant.

by Klanish i don't mean racist per se but if you look at the Klan the hate Blacks, Jews, progressives, in essecense anyone not like them, which they have in common with conservatives, like Rush and Bill O.--DM has a regular guest spot on Bill O. so i think my attacks are fair.

I think that this is great especially the second verse, it gathers a momentum that makes the reader breathless. I have to confess never heard of Dennis Miller, was he real?

      hey Robin

thanks for commenting, the second verse's purpose was to rant in the Dennis Miller signature style the way he used to do before he became an asshole.

thanks for commenting. DM started to make small comments, like "thats just a knee-jerk liberal reaction." Then he morphed into a total asshole from there.

yea dennis miller used to be funny, Last time I saw anything of his that was funny, besides him trying to become and NFL announcer, haha what a joke, was his appearance in "Joe Dirt" with David Spade where he basically plays a Shock Jock, pretty much the opposite of what he's doing now. It's all "a little too ironic, yea I really do think" says Alanis. Good poem or obituary.

    Everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Sounds like you opinion of Dennis Miller is pretty strong. Since I'm not familiar with this Dennis Miller I shouldn't go into a rant even if he does sound like a holier than thou no good low down low life who has such a shadey past it wouldn't stand up to the light of scrutiny cast my a dim flashlight. Like I said since I'm not familiar with him I shouldn't go into a rant. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
