My Garden

// I have literally just written this, I sat down with Brand New playing and the lights dim, and it all flowed to me. The imagery makes sense in my head, maybe it will to you too? Let me know what you think, It might need some work. I dunno.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Stray not into my garden,
The gates close, and I might not get you out,
I know that while you're here you will just lay on the dead peonies
And your dress will cover the dying hyacinth
Or is that the plan?
If you stay, I'd rather you did the weeding.
Remove the decayed branches from the Magnolia, for
I can't reach alone
But if you hold the ladder, I can get the top bit and maybe
Next year it will flower again
The walls need cleaning too, for the lichen has grown
And I have lost things in the ivy
The pond needs clearing, maybe
Dig it again?
Lets move it, re-invent the place.
Buy a fountain, and plant some hydrangea,
Hibiscus, orchids, verbena
Some sculpture, lets make my garden
Ours

this poem makes me think of this girl who i know. at first she was hard to approach and talk to but when we had to do an interview of eachother for a school project and we became friends. i learned about some of the rough stuff she was dealing with and helped her out best i could.
i especially like the two questions in the poem 'or is that the plan?' and 'dig it again?' and how they contrast as asking if one would harm the garden on purpose with asking for help to better it.
