Die fast or die slow

You can be killed by self-destruction
staying out all night
using drugs, drinking and
chain-smoking
having unprotected sex
with prostitutes
hanging out with low-lives
who’d stab their mother
in the back
for a few dollars

On the other hand
you can also be killed
from being too virtuous
going to bed early every night
having sex in the same old
missionary position
putting skim milk
in decaffeinated coffee
and hanging out with friends
who’ve never had a toothache

Only thing is
it takes a lot longer

    Spirit of Buk

Hey Dave. This is like something Buk would write and his spirit is definitely all over it. This is a good one, your best for some time. Loved it. >W<

    Ying and Yang

A well laid out introspect of the human condition. Its true that all great teachers and philosophers of the world have always said one thing in common. The path to enlightenment lays between all extremes. Perhaps your poem highlights that truth or perhaps I am miss reading it all together. I like it very much.

    language: 2, rhythm: 1, subject: 5, tone: 1, form: 2.

Haha. Whichever way we are going to die. We choose our death. I prefer being hit by a car and dying automatically. I mean, i prefer quicker deaths than slower ones. I'm not much for the whole slow drama that unravels as you wait for death. Anyway, at least those who like to live longer can savor the boredom in the decaffeinated skimmed milk coffee, while some smoke their way through life.
Your poetry has the same usual bite, but it does remind you how death is such a great equalizer. No matter how careful we live, we do just die anyway.

    coffe minus the skim milk

    Dave,

i don't know, man. these are two extremes. i really have a large variety of friends from everywhere in the spectrum. so i don't think many people are so black/white, or that one can either be only black/white. but, you have showed the faults in "super good" as well as "super bad," stereotypically speaking. and of course, your "on the other hand" portion is supposed to be somewhat shocking...err under-realized, to which you are correct: "super good" can be a bad thing too; no excitement for a long period of time, vs. complete excitement for a short duration.

anyhow, maybe i'm not "super good" for taking time to respond to this (no offense), cuz i really should be studying for a test later this evening. lol. i guess i'll die young.

    always,

    Pap
