Such a Pretty Girl

Oh, she is such a pretty girl
With her blonde curls and blue eyes
Such an adorable girl
An angel in disguise

They don’t know that these are lies
This teen is empty inside
She’d been hated from the very first time she opened her eyes
By the man she’d seen as her guide

Her mother died after giving birth
To this beautiful child
She had brought her daughter upon this earth
To brighten the world each time she smiled

But her father changed when he saw his wife die
And he believed his daughter was to blame
He cowered in bed for days, asking why
He was chosen as the loser in this game

When she was six he wrapped a rope
Tightly round her chest
It seemed that this girl had no hope
Of ever being blessed

When she turned ten he fed her drugs
To try to make her suffer
He never would give her kisses or hugs
And from there it just got tougher

Her sophomore year he committed a sin
That would change her life for days to come
He violated her again and again
Until her entire body was numb

She endured this abuse for years to come
And by the time she turned eighteen
Her face was gaunt, and she’d been struck dumb
She couldn’t remember ever being clean

She’s curl in a ball in the corner of her room
And wait for his screams to end
She secretly wished she had died in the womb
Instead of playing pretend

When the time finally came for her to move out
He wouldn’t let her go
He claimed he loved her without a doubt
But she shook her head, saying no

He had no right to hurt her then
Or tell her she couldn’t leave
She had been waiting to escape since she was ten
And she wanted to see him grieve

“You hurt me, dad, you stole what I was,
And smashed it in the dirt
I am leaving you now and only because
I no longer want to see myself get hurt”

With that she walked straight out the door
With happiness streaming down her face
She knew she wouldn’t hurt anymore
She was finally leaving that place

Three years later at twenty three
She holds her daughter’s hand
She can’t believe how happy she can be
It’s definitely not what she planned

As she stares into the eyes of the blue eyed kid
She knows she is inside
She vows to never do what her father did
It is love for her daughter she will provide

Author notes

this is a true story... (not mine of course)
this happens everyday in the world... all this abuse and rape.. it makes me so mad. And when I get mad, I write poetry. this is what came out of it.
