She was a girl made of crimson and plaster
With a heart made of stone she thought no one could master But she left it wide open for the entire world to see And it taught her a lesson that nothing is what it should be She said, eyes wide There will never be love here She scarred her own arms after he left bruises on her face She thought she was strong, but that wasn’t the case Each time she shielded herself from his fist She knew there would be another part of life she missed She said, scared to death There will never be love here She was brought into the world thinking love was something pure And that for every problem there was a special cure But she soon lost her faith when he pushed her to the ground And it was too late to escape when she discovered she was bound And she said, shaking in infinite fear There is no love here She put on a mask and called herself content But on the inside she knew what she really meant Though he told her he loved her after every new bruise She knew, inside, she had everything to lose And she said, her voice shaking There is no love here Even though he held her and told her he was true He broke her trust and stole her innocence when he turned her black and blue Her mother asked her why she always looked so beaten down And why she never did replace that smile with a frown And she said, shaking her head There is no love here She soon saw the world as a place made for hurt And her outlook on life soon buried her in the dirt But still she clung to him like he was the only one And the darkness within her spilled the shadows and burnt the sun And she said, muffling her voice in the pillow There is no love here He cursed her with a child he would never let live And after he forced her abortion she had nothing left to give The girl he was beating became an empty shell And he was the devil in her burning hell And she whispered, wiping tears from her face There is no love here She couldn’t grab a hold of what could get her out of that place Each time she woke she dreaded seeing his face But he wouldn’t let her leave when she begged for sweet release And he always got away with telling her that there would soon be peace And she cried, clutching her chest There is no love here He left her hungry, ravenous for love, desperate for a smile But she knew she wouldn’t find it, even if she walked a mile He held her down with stone hands and voice of steel Saying that she better listen, it didn’t seem real And she screamed, pulling away There is no love here She drifted away from the world around her, desperate for escape He filled her world with beatings, tears and endless rape At first she tried to fight and speak the rights she knew she had But instead of making him calm down it only made him mad And she cried, bleeding endlessly inside There is no love here Look around you now, everyone, can you see the cruelty here? Can you see the endless abuse that occurs every year? Where is your anger? Where is your outrage? Are you all just too afraid to turn life’s page? We all cry, pitying the victims There is no love here There never will be love here |
Author notes
I have been writing about these kinds of subjects lately because stuff like this is happening every day. Some little girl is being abused right as you read this poem. This touches my heart and brings out a lttle rage in me as well as helplessness because there is so much to be done about these things, but no one is really doing anything. They are just sitting back and letting it happen, and this proves how cruel and horrible our world is really becoming. I wrote this poem, read it over and it was a slap in the face to me because I realized how real it was. Please comment on this poem and tell me what you think about the subject at hand. Thank you.
