Food You Eat

Please get rid of all this food;

I’d get you drinking if I could.

But I know you’re keen on staying sober.

You have fears that this sparkling brew

Will get inside the mind of you

And turn it over.

This little secret is obscure

But are you really very sure

That sobriety’s the state you’re in?

The food you eat is rotten -

Man,

Didn’t you smell it as you opened the can,

Yes, it went bad, you don’t know how or when,

And you paid for it.

Now you’ll have to throw it away,

Or keep poisoning yourself until you sway,

You can’t ignore it.

Before they mentioned hunger on TV,

Remember how you were so free,

And wanted nothing?

So drunk on life,

So willing to move,

Looking for answer,

A clue and a proof,

So happily laughing.

Now look at you,

Your eyes so dim,

You’re swallowing rotten canned sardines,

Or whatever it is.

I don’t anymore feel sorry for you,

It’s everybody’s choice as to what they do;

But I’ll keep some of this sparkling brew,

I know when you’re fed up

You’ll throw up and be thirsty.

Did you get the point?

Sorry, you cannot respond to an archived poem

    Amusing and true

I enjoyed reading this. Unique, to be sure.
One question: Did you purposefully use “through” instead of “throw” in the following line?

‘Now you’ll have to through it away,’

Thanks for pointing the through-throw thing out… Thanks for commenting too!
