Ignorance

Everybody inherits total ignorance
This inheritance prevents the brain
from understanding the soul

Total ignorance is everywhere
I began to see it
when I began to understand it

The numbers in my head are increasing

The masses have total ignorance
The educated have general ignorance
The enlightened understand their ignorance

So,how does one understand their ignorance?
By thought?
By observation?
By intuition?
By reading?

Truth is,

I haven`t got a fuckin` clue!!

    "I began to see it
when I began to understand it" is a fabulous part. I really like how that sounds. But the last line I think really somewhat ruins the poem by using slang and a curse word. It would sound much better being "I just have no clue." That sounds much more mature.

I like the whole idea, and I like most of the poem. "The numbers in my head are increasing" is somewhat of an awkward line but I like the rest.

    language: 4, rhythm: 5, subject: 5, tone: 3, form: 5.

    Pondering Confucius?

"The only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing"

    -Confucius

Hmmmm...I've always thought the saying a tad paradoxical, but I get the jist and it seems you do too as you appear to have written a poem on it.

The finer point I see? We all need to realize that in general we are lacking a great many things. The proud are closed to learning, hence we need humility as to our state of knowing(or, rather, unknowing) if we are ever to know more. The concept as I have understood it is not all about the stupid, but rather all about the knowing about the stupid so that we can do something about it. I suppose we can enthrone ignorance and make it the focal point, but I'd rather not. I realize that I'm a dumbass and strive daily to alleviate my condition, often unsuccessfully. Sadly, many strive to alleviate the conditions of others whilst reveling in their own elevated status. Such is a sad state of affairs. I often think of Jesus when he said "look, buddy...you can't see properly to remove the sliver from your brother's eye because there's a tree in your own." Now there's a guy who knew something.

I identify, Rhet, and I do get the "what's the point?" of all this contemplative navel gazing just to add to one's lint collection. It all too often seems such a waste of time. But the way I see it, our supreme directive is to discover pure love, or, selflessness.

The animal is all about "me". Man has risen from the dead-end ashes of selfishness because he discovered the capacity to think also about "we". We progress because we take the time to teach one another what we have learned. This is a selfless act for the "we". But it's a tall order as it goes against the animal grain of "me". We contemplate to evaluate, we evaluate to make observations that enlighten us, and then we hopefully apply what we have learned in order to progress. We then evaluate our progress and begin again. The contemplative navel gazing is so that we can see where we are, look to where we want to be, and then set a plan in motion to get there. Without this we just feed, sleep and breed. Without a higher aim, these three activities only make more of us dumbasses. I may be talking out my ass here, but does this make sense? If it doesn't, I haven't got a fuckin' clue either.

    I feel your pain.

Hey Al, I recall a while back asking gnossisonG about his nom de plume and it led me in the direction of gnostic teachings,Plato,Socrates and several other philsophers which resulted in this poem..i had to add the last line to cover my pretentious philosphical ass because i know that the level of understanding that you have shown me in your comment is something i am only beginning to achieve..."This world becomes less significant the more you understand your place in it however everything is highly significant until you understand your place in it"...holy shit, that sounded pretty decent for me

      cheers Al

        Poppycock,

strip away the round and round and it all boils down to one simple thing: love. Love your brother/sister as you would love yourself. That's the greatest challenge of mankind and if we could but do it we all would be light years ahead and probably lounging about in white jump-suits whilst telepathically communicating from our flying cars. Oh wait, I think I saw something like that today, but it was only an earpiece, terribly indulgent fashion sense and poor driving.

Always a hoot exchanging words, Rhet.
