Paper Tongue

My dreams are littered with your face
Your voice
And when I hear a love song, your name and mine
Are the words
I'd spend my whole life writing volumes
And never fully divulge how I feel
I'd make excuses as large as the universe
Just to be able to have one second with you

Yet you don't even notice
It's hard to believe

Everyone says it's not that obvious
But even your name can send my heart into a frenzy

And some may say I'm crazy
For love at such an age is nonexistent
Well, I'd say you come pretty close

I try to make light of the matter
So do my friends
But have you ever seen the begger calm as the Prince strolls by?

No matter how much I try to disprove it
There's no masking the way I feel
And no want from me to mask it
You're my phantom, no doubt
And I'm your admirer from afar
That you never knew about

Everyday, I'm stirred to tell you
But every second discourages me
Curse my spine of gellatin and heart of steel
My trepidation and paper tongue
My emotions and my daydreams
My thoughts and my subconscious hopes
Curse them all, for each has a factor in my situation
Driving me to release, then caging me again

But no matter how it hurts, how things change, or what I say
I'll always be your faintest shadow
