Because I Love

You appeared to me last night
a mermaid covered all
in shiny scales
your thoughts seemed directionless
floating upon a wavering sea
with smiling debris of
pearls coral shells and stones

ascended and before my eyes
sinking inward fled your modesty
and scared to death it drowned
only to awake again
and sleep again
within the depths of love

hands wrists arms outstreched
arising from the sea
once again to disappear
rushing gently
through my dreams last night

then you turned all to flesh
body floating in the foam
clothed only in

the surf's impassioned call
