Joan of Arc

Goodness is yours.
You wield it like a sword,
judging me , yourself and the world,
condemning us all.

Your will of iron chains us both.
Your oath of cleanliness
holds firm
so you can show a clean sheet to St. Peter
when we are worms.

Tainted , our love is cast down
and sainted , my Joan of Arc
can wear her crown

but how
will she answer when He asks
what have you done with my gifts?

    very nice!

ok, correct me if im wrong.... is this Joan of Arc a persona u used for a person who cant give you the love u think is there between the two of u and is strict enough to stick it out to her rules?

this is really excellent. i liked it very much. i hope im not mistaken in my interpretation coz i read it over and over and my smile just got bigger and my eyes just twinkled lol.

A really good way to picture out a love that could never be (?).

HOpe everything is well with you.

i love Joan od Arc and this is the first time I am reading a poem on her. Its a neat piece...
short and sweet. I like the form used along with the rhythm pattern. Keep up the good work.

    well written

You always have a way of making the most complicated of things so easy.. this is well written and for something from history have made it interesting to a lot of people.. I myself love history, but my 15 year old daughter is here with me and said she really enjoyed it....

    Thanks for sharing

    hugs Linda

      Very Flattering !

not easy to interest a 15yr. old in poetry OR history! May I suggest you get her to download the song 'Joan of Arc' by Jennifer Warnes and Leonard Cohen ( a rare example of a re-make outdoing an excellent original)it always makes the hairs stand up for me and I'm sure it will blow you both away ( assuming you don't already know it ) Thanks for the comment - I am truly pleased with it !

History and religion, meets poetry. I should say that you write quite an array of poems and this was interesting.
Joan of Arc, raises quite a lot of questions...was she really hearing God or was she schizophrenic? Yet, i suppose that is of no bearing, for truly at the end of the day, her fate is sealed...she is dead and it is up to her to answer God's question.
I enjoyed reading this poem, it was simple, but was able to tell you a bit of history and left you asking about life after death.

Thanks for going to the trouble of pulling this one out of closet Iphios. It's an old one but I think I'll always have a soft spot for it.I'm afraid it has very little to do with history, religion or even St. Joan for that matter. Saints and sinners maybe. But what you get is what you get- that's the beauty of poetry . Really appreciate the comment.

Self publicizing is appalling - but! If you're looking for 'different' you might like 'Hum-V' , "It's Poetry" or 'Jesus and the Nazis" . I'd love to know what you think. Anything of yours you'd like me to look at?      >W<
