you know…. we don’t have to go through the “official” publishing channels, or “self-publish” our works via a vanity press in order to get published. We can truly self-publish via out-of-the-mainstream methods.
I went to an “Alternative Book Fair” not too long ago, and was amazed at the variety and quality of the locally produced Books, Zines, and so forth. Some of them were crap…. but others were FANTASTIC! I saw one that had a block-printed cover, and xerox text pages…. and it was a true work of art.
AND… these publications were getting a lot of distribution and readership. One Zine Publisher that I talked to sells 500 copies every month, which is not bad at all.
I guess my point is that we don’t HAVE to use others for our publication…... with a little ingenuity, creativity and modern technology, we can produce some very fine publications all by ourselves.

Excellent idea! Another way to start circulating your work is by compiling, designing, and creating your own e-book to distribute on the web or via file-sharing. You never know who may slap their eyes across your pages with interest.
