Seriously though, the Floyd have stood the test of time.

Also Genesis and Yes from the same era.

These days, I enjoy Polyphonic Spree, Arcade Fire, Flaming Lips, Muse, Coldplay, Pure Reason Revolution, Frost, Anathema, Opeth...... far too many to list.

    I've got lots but...

I guess it comes down to The Beatles. Easily.
King Crimson and Jan Akkerman make me want to change my mind about that statement, though.

I like the progressive bands from places other than America.

System of a Down, hands down. I'm sure Serj Tankian himself will be up there too when his solo album comes out. The there Modest Mouse, Nirvana, The Beatles (the movies Across the Universe was great by the way) and Flogging Molly.

The Beatles, by a landslide. Also, gotta love The Doors, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Who...etc. I should have been around in the 60s .
More recently, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lily Allen, Corinne Bailey Rae, Mika, Alanis Morissette, etc. Heh, I doubt people have heard of some of these, but oh well.
Anyway, I have to agree about Nirvana. I've just recently gotten into them and have found that they're pretty cool. My dad drew a picture of Kurt Cobain the year he died that is hanging on the wall.

    Red Hot Chili Peppers

I mean c'mon they formed in 1983-84 and had the album and tour of the year in 2007, making their best CD to date with stadium arcadium. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, The Doors, Hendrix Experience, The Who, Beatles, The Stones, Etc Etc...You could go on and on about good bands, but my fav's right on top and still Funkin' Around

I'm not sure I could choose one, my favourite is always changing. He's just got so much variety in there! At the minute though i'd have to say slightly older stuff like 'To Record Water...' I just love the honesty and humbleness in how he's not fussed about any slightly out of tune guitars and off key singing.
Have you heard his acoustic recordings of Shadows..? you can download it for free from his website i think. Its good stuff!

    yea

ive been on his website alot, spent many many days and nights there listening to music, reading interviews, definately listening to the acoustic shadows recordings, I like almost all of his solo albums, the first two were a little too distorted and reminded me of him when he was all fucked up on heroin so I don't listen unless its a really good song. But yea he's an amazing musician

  • A String of Almosts

    A String of Almosts:

    Nickelback
    Tori Amos
    Ani Difranco
    Nirvana
    Green Day (especially Dookie)
    the Beatles
Madonna from the 80s (not a band, but still)
    The Chili's

Basically, I like some of what most of you like. But I couldn't say that I've found my "favorite" band yet. I keep waiting for the band whose lyrics and music will combine to make me go WOW. But I haven't yet found one.

Some of Tori's stuff is close, lyrically... but I think that her music often leaves something to be desired. I think I'll probably find my match when I least expect it. It will probably be some undiscovered garage band that I'll stumble upon after following some drunk, slam poet home...
