offering an introduction

Good afternoon fellow poets. I am fairly new to the site and wanted to introduce myself, and make a small request.

    First, the introduction.
I am 24, and married with a bacholer's degree in English and an emphesis in creative writing. It has been about 6 months since I graduated and I need a little help. I had a really rough time with a poetry forms class at UMKC and lost any real desire to even look at my poetry, new or old. I actually tossed out a lot of poetry as an end result. Every poem I offered was ripped a new one because I apparently wasn't grasping the forms. I wasn't even offered any positive feed back (when 1 for 20 negetive comments would have been good). The end result was a passing grade I had to fight for.

    Now the request,
I would like to get constructive comments towards some of my poetry. If anyone could just take a look i would appreciate it. It's hard to edit you own work when you don't look at it with an objective eye. Of course, turnabout is fair play and I will offer my thoughts in return.

    Many thanks in advance!
    Jenn

    hey Jenn

every single person on this site wants comments, the way to get people to comment on your work is to comment on theirs, as oppossed to asking for them. That isn't a bad thing though, reading other peoples work will impove your own.

As for your class, I'd consider dropping it. Academic poetry is usually very boring, and the students conform by writing what the teacher wants to hear. And altough some people do them well (rarly) forms are arcane and stiffling. Makes writing poetry hard work and tedious, like accounting. It should flow and be wide open and fun. So drop the class and go to starbucks and write into the wee hours of the morning, then post it here, and see what people think.

That was last fall, and sadly it was required to graduate. Once my husband is a bit more on the mend i'll peek around and offer comments. He had surgery on Friday so i'm playing nursemaid to some extent. Life always gets in the way, you just have to work around it.
