Follow me... I was lifted up on high only to fall to earth again and from small beginnings was transformed to greatness. I am the great enigma, one minute calm, and the next a raging thing capable of great destruction. I can be the giver of life, or destroy it in the blink of an eye there is a great beauty in me that moves the poet to wax lyrical, there is also a side that that is ugly and dark a side that destroys. Follow me from my beginnings and i will show you rugged landscapes, crags shaped like the claws of some long dead primeval colossus that sit like kings atop mountains of granite, stark, threatening the very heavens that throw a protective umbrella about them. Follow me and i will show you great forests that have stood since the beginning of time itself, the redwood pine and mighty oak a veritable army of living legends that have looked upon the changing times of our once beautiful planet, a blue jewel shining in the darkness of space. Follow me as i sweep you along on a raging torrent racing through canyons of granite, in suicidal headlong flight. Follow me... now calm, and moving along at a sedate pace watch as fish leap from my very essence to catch insects, their silvery bodies glinting in the sunlight as they rise majestically before arching downward towards the placid rolling highway, dragonfly's captured between cruel jaws Overhead the majestic golden eagle in all its regal splendour rides the thermals as he hunts the hunters. Follow me...see the rolling landscapes dressed in forty shades of green, red deer graze upon endless tracts of grassland, while mighty stags, their heads high display antlers that say.. what i have i hold. Follow me to journeys end,the mighty ocean spread like a carpet of blue as far as the eye can see welcomes me and will embrace me like a parent welcoming a child Above me the great sun god looks down he will once again lift me on high so that i ride the skies once more and when the time is right i will once again fall to earth and my greatness and indestructible power will be on the lips of men. |

I really enjoyed this, bowmore bill.
It's vast, rich, loaded with vivid impressions of the whole earth, and even rides beyond the planet to the heavens and back again. This is BIG writing, and I'm a fan of that kind of cosmic theme.
At first, I sensed Lucifer as the subject, as the speaker. But then I thought, no, it's God himself, or a great divinity of whatever faith belief. But finally, I interpreted it as the poet himself as a piece of all humanity, his eyes and ears and all his passions spread all over landscapes and animal life and the seas, like a mysterious and universal spirit, something like the Hindu Shiva: both creative and destructive - and that same dualistic spirit is in Humanity, too.
But whatever your intentions for the poem are, I was pulled in by them.
Seductive writing, bowmore, with some terrific phrases.
