The Dolphin

I saw an old blowout retread sticking up from the road
the grader had rolled it into a gravel pile
it looked like a beached dolphin, waving a flipper
Damn! That guy must of been so pissed
he just left it there to bake in the sun

Its hot and I’m sweating
every time a car goes by I get dusted
The tub is gonna have a ring tonight
because dirty soap leaves truth behind
I wore out some more skin today
maybe that is why I like snakes
for snakes shedding skin
is an important part of life
the passing of another stage
moving on to the next

The guy who shed a tire
couldn’t deal with the loss
now he has to go buy another
The car has to shed something
it’s a good thing that we don’t
have to buy a new car
every time a tire blows

What blows is
that tires, unlike worn out skin
resist natural decomposition
just one more piece of junk
a little more economic detritus
coming from egomaniacal consumerism
Tires don’t go down the drain
and that guy did us a favor
He is making us look at our dead skin
Oh, some body will probably
pick it up and hide it in a dump
but for now it is an overlooked
symbol of a callous disregard for nature

Please tell me what you think
