Quarrying for Bukowski's Lobowski

Missing image

He sits in the corner alone
probably stoned

he's a cornerstone

in shifting sands
he stands
constant

he is a rock

he has 'gravel'-
probably chips off the old block

he doens't just bend the rules
he pays them abosolutely
no heed

and if he ever leaves
this place will indeed be

poorer

nothing surer.

Round here everyone
talks the talk
but this guy walks like John Wayne

you just know

solid, familiar and reliable
like some town-hall clock
he's our Big Lobowski Bukowski

he's The Ochs

Did Ochs put you up to this?

Hi Nienna. Who recommended this piece - Ochs? Nobody else would ! Ha ha! No, seriously, I can't imagine this place without him and since someone is bound to assassinate his ass early in life I thought it would be nice to write him an epitaph he could read! Thank you for reading and commenting and for your kind remarks. Much appreciated as always. >W<

Hey WH. I haven't read some of yours for a long time! I'm pleased that this one was reccommended to me to jump start my renewed windhover vigor! I thought this was great.

I would imagine that if I were dave (which I'm not, to be sure) there would be little more that one could do to compliment me than to call me Bukowski. I mean...come on. While reading Bukowski I think Dave, when reading Dave I think Bukowski. But I didn't ever actually articulate it. Thanks for doing that!

Good stuff. I liked the meter. Very much a WH thing there.

      This was a reluctant tribute...

... which really makes it worse! Hey Papyrus. Sometimes poems just present themselves and have to be written down. God knows I wouldn't encourage that slob Ochs unless I had no choice - and what's more - so does he! Thanks for reading and commenting. >W<

Ha ha ha, made me laugh.

...not just the poem but the vision ( and the visuals). Corner-stoned... ha ha ha. The Ochs. The Ox!!! And a super tribute to a delightful, sometimes twisted and talented guy. Lub/Buk parallels well spotted. And not just a pretty face, either...(!!??) Fun.

I'm still waiting for some reciprocation....

Glad it tickled your funny bone Alex. I'm still waiting for that bastard Ox to return the compliment and write something nice about me !

    LUPO...

I am glad to be around.I have to see whats new around here.I am just trying to find the right words to do honor to your poem.I think it is very singular, a good requiem...it seems to me a description using the exact images.Youre making a picture of this one individual and anyone can see him while reading without having to know anything else about him.
Great work.I think it is on centre of poetry magesty, to be created on obscure corners of loneliness, despair and spleen.I dont know why pain inspire the great ones. But remembering Poe, Boudelaire, Rimboud, Dylan Thomas, Lorca, Emily , and all the greats youll always find the world never treat them so well.
    Why?

    Nifty tribute, John...

...to a deserving recipient. The images of our ochs as a perhaps-stoned cornerstone, as 'gravel' - nice touch of 'gravitas' - constant rock, ruleless, a steady tower-clock and a loveable BigOldLobowskiPalooka are all just right; I couldn't agree more (except I notice, perhaps just like most of us thin skins, he gets a bit miffed if one doesn't like one of his poems - but that's a small thing in the long run of his good work). Although the stretched use of 'John Wayne' makes me think, "Aw, come on already...", I know what you meant there, and it comes out fine.

Well, at the risk of sounding like an a-ho, I have to say that I'm not a fan of posted, personalized poems of praise - though surely well-written and well-deserved, as this one is - your kind sentiments, especially while in a dry spell, tell me even more about that big Irish heart of yours. May Windhover ever soar!

I guess you seen the guy..

me I never seen him, but from everything I've read of his, his words walk the walk and talk the talk. Now, can he down 18 straight shots of bourbon? Maybe there should be no attempt to answer that one. MJ

Hey Dave. Yeah things are pretty bad okay. I don't have an image of Bukowski to hang on you but 'The Dude' pretty much fits the image I'd pin on you. I was going to call it 'Tribute to Dave Ochs' but it tickled my gag-reflex too strongly! I suppose I just figured somebody's going to assassinate you soon (your girlfriend, your wife, me - who knows?) and I just thought it would be nice to do your eulogy while you're still around to enjoy it.
