Ode to the Sky

A big protective covering
forever changing going
from one sensation to the next.
In the daylight a big blue blanket
with puffy white patterns
of cottony clouds.
At night a black velvety cape
covered with big beautiful diamonds
transforming into flying cupids
and little dippers.
Those times in between
morning and night.
are the most enchanting of all.
With brilliant apple reds
Hot electric blues
the pink of a little girls dress
the greens from the leaves on trees
all strung across the horizon
like massive streamers
at some unknown party.
The sky so big and radiant
vibrant and full of life.
What on earth would we do without you?

    Beautiful!!

Hi, Imurphy. I like this poem; it's like a song, a hymn, to the loveliness of the sky. The poem is enjoyable because of its details about the daysky and the nightsky, but your preference for the daysky is clear, and so is the whole poem. All of it is a great read for me, with no fancy metaphors or complicated language, just nicely worded praise - and that final line, for me, seems a perfect way to bring the poem to a close.
I like all of it, but my favorite lines have to be:

    "...all strung across the horizon
    like massive streamers
at some unknown party." - great lines there!

    Good poem, Imurphy.
