Threats and Deeds

I love America
Her secret’s safe with me
I know her wicked ways
The parts you never see
“Miss America” – David Byrne

You are everywhere. Not by choice
of those who are
forced to stare
at your long arms,
or are they tentacles?

Hard to see
when, just as we think
we can sense your kindness,
one of us gets whipped
to submission.

Sat on.

Barbed Barbie
on missile point
heels,
if anyone says
Ouch

We get a taste of your beauty
and animosity.

You say it as it is and i would agree. The US has been criticized a lot by the outside world as it dips its fingers on other people's pie. And most citizen's are left asking: Why? What right do they have to cloak their action in divine benevolence? Strong poem the elements of pageant and politics mixed so well. And yes, thought the beauty that is freedom/democracy is worth the taste, they seem to not like having other people go against it. It bites. this poem bites. I can go on and on, at the subject at hand. But i'll stop. This got me gritting my teeth a bit. The last stanza was beautiful, the paradox of the whole situation is captured in those two lines.

      iphios,

Thanks for your comments. I was about to give up on this site. I have no idea how to get people to comment. I am still groping around.

I see not much politics get discussed around here. Lots of other usual stuff. I could be wrong.
