Dolphins

Dolphins

A dolphin show
‘can we go, can we go!’
I don’t know, son

I don’t like zoos

between my wife
and my six-year old’s pleas
I was always going to lose

I’m glad I did

for whatever
preconconceptions I may have held
didn’t last long

I’d been wrong

and this was no circus act
no smoke, no mirrors
no sad eyed, broken souls

begging for buns

the dolphins
were having more fun
than their handlers

and that was a lot

what flowed between them
and leaked up into the bleachers
to spread among the crowd
was pure love

raw animal emotion

so that it was I
and not the dolphins
who found himself

pining for the ocean
