a bag full of books lies contrapostal on my mattress from
a box full of even more literature sitting
begrudgingly on my carpet and all i can think
is how bright and sunny and green
outside is today and how i want to
climb many a tree but
how i am too lazy to get out
of bed surrounded by these books begging
to be read i must have said a thousand times
i'll finish you later
to every one, in my box there's
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers which
i've stopped and re-started at least
six times now always stopping
when Treebeard falls asleep under a waterfall
which is about the same time
i fall asleep with the book in my hands then The Bastard
of Istanbul, by Elif Shafak
a novel
banned in Turkey because
she is too liberal regarding woman's right and well
honest
but i bought it at Barnes and Nobel via gift-card
in my bag i've got The Great Shark Hunt
by the great HST in which is a story
about the Kentucky Derby that i've never finished
either which is supposed to be the first piece
of gonzo-journalism ever written
(and Spell-Check doesn't recognize that word) and also
The Great Gatsby which i've already read in High School but picked up at a second-hand bookstore cheep
thinking i should have
to re-read with more appreciation but have not
yet gotten past the first chapter and then of course there is
The Message translation of the Bible i also haven't
been so diligent to indulge in whose cover
is long gone giving the impression that i
use it a lot when i really only
drag it around a lot
out of some deep conviction of security like
i used to carry around a blanket
and could not go to bed without it but lately
i've been sleeping with my desk lamp light on not
because i'm scared of the dark but because i can't
fall asleep thinking there is something left to do so
i won't turn off the light and just lie
fretting myself out of energy until suddenly
i wake up and the day is bright and sunny and
green and i've got an open bag full of books
on my bed pushing against my leg and
a bigger box full of books on the floor to trip over
when i finally get up to start my day
(although the day started without me)
usually because i'm too hungry to lie down any longer thinking
my summer has only just begun and
so i'm taking it easy not
in a hurry or obligated to do anything which explains
my surprise to wake up to these literal convictions all
shouting the same bloody thing and i can't just
make them all shut up at once until i've
answered each and every single one's individual call to
read me!

ah, people reading sounds more entertaining. i like to people watch, but i'm not sure if that's the same thing...
a creature of the night, eh? well, i can never put myself to bed either. but when i do sleep, good luck trying to get me up.
too bad i'm not fluent in physics...

Better Dead Than Read!
Hahah. Can relate here, Pap. Perfect(!) title to a splurge of bad-conscience riddled by book-worms galore.
Slightly long but like a night tossed and turned perhaps it has to be, and besides, talk of books always heightens the interest in this punter!
All the unfinished books left littering the wayside, like girlfriends unconsummated, wagging fingers of disapproval, would certainly disrupt nocturnal musings of any avid reader.
Still at least you have a list denoting your listlessness, Pap, so you have a handle on your tasks ahead. And you could (even though it´s cheating) hop over Greybeards somnolent passage (as long as you read it later) and read on. The Ents are afterall somewhat of an aside, like the whole meaningless (to the plot) Tom Bombadil section in the Hobbit.
Cool closing image of tomes open maws mouthing "Read me! Read me!" reminds me of the meat-eating plant in Little Shop of Horrors "Feed me, Seymour, feed me".
Classic.
Cheers
gG
PS. delete "d" in surprised, fifth to last line.

*yawn, sits up in bed, it's 1:00 pm
gG,
yes, this one is quite long. oh and it is killer trying to recite in front of the camera. blah.
yes, i am quite a fan of J.R.R. The part about Tom Bombadil is in The Fellowship, i thought (haven't read The Hobbit). anyhow, the section about the ents goes quit slow, which seems fitting.
i'm glad you liked the closing image. your interpretation is perfect. all these books seem to be haunting me. haha.
and thanx for pointing out a spelling error. there is only so much my own mind can catch.
best,
Pap
p.s. - there seems to be less activity on this site lately, me included. my comment below was a response to Caliente. but she deleted her profile. what's left of her is listed as "DeletedProfile" if u can find it. anyhow, her comment is gone. and i never see Lad or Plumeister anymore, to name a few. so it's nice to see a familiar face among all these fresh ones. -

opps
Of course it was Fellowship - been a while since I read either Hobbit or LOTR.
As to your PS. Yeah activity is down but as long as insight is to be gleaned by continued participation then things are satisfactory. I do miss Lad and Plumeister and its a shame about Caliente (a bit annoying with all the replies/comments left hanging in thin air aswell).
Anyway cheers Pap

The life of Papy hey

Read those books hehehehe, only teasing...
I dont even have your life and I find it hard to get to my books sometimes..hence why I make it a law to have a soak in the bath at least every three days and I read while there

Another intriguing rant, write from Papy
