Love's Pain

Love’s Pain

His tearful eyes grow weary
as he sits impatiently, staring at his wife.
Cupping the woman’s shivering hands.
Wanting to have and to hold her for life.

His smile slowly fading,
forgetting all the rest.
Watching his beloved wife,
as his heart painfully beats in his chest.

With his hands trembling,
he tries to remember long ago,
when they first kissed that Christmas night,
as they both lovingly fell in the glistening snow.

With a painful smile,
he remembers that heart-felt kiss.
He realizes for as long as he lives,
that genuine kiss he will miss

His body shivers,
as his stomach encounters butterflies.
Gazing at her frightened face
and her soft, beautiful blue eyes.

With faded black hair and all
He remembers their first slow dance.
With the stars shining above,
engaging in a majestic romance.

Slowly and painfully
a tear rolls down his cheek
If things were to continue
He knows he will feel the same next week.

Without saying a word
his quivering lips mouth the words “I love you.”
Growing old together,
they never felt a love so true.

He squeezes her hand,
as his heart feels much pain.
Knowing if he loses her,
he, himself would go insane.

Their love has been eternal
with so much to remember from the past.
Wishing and hoping,
this love with her will forever last.

His eyes wide open with a look of shock
the sound of his heart splitting, and now tore.
Gently placing his shaken hand upon her chest
he feels her heart beat no more.
