was down at the local
builder's providers
the other day
I wish I could I could say
he was buying hack-saws
or pick axes
but he wasn't
Everybody knew him
but nobody bothered him
that's the Irish way
with celebrity
but out in the yard
where things were busy
a builder's flat-bed
truck
had him blocked in
and Brian Keenan
who lasted four
years and more
in a Beiruit cellar
politely beeped his horn
quick as a flash
the driver shouted
'ah, fer fuck's sake, Brian!
ye'd think you'd be used to feckin' waitin'!'
everybody laughed
which is what makes the Irish
great
.

This is a true story to the best of my knowledge. Brian Keenan was held as a hostage by Islamic Jihad in Beiruit, Lebanon between 1986 and 1990.
